Sri Lanka leave New Zealand winless - Cricket News Roundup ? Part 1 ? November 11, 2012

On Saturday, in the fourth match of the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand, hosts Sri Lanka secured their third successive victory that eventually earned them the series at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.

The match that was reduced to 32 overs saw New Zealand pose a meagre total of 131, which they failed to defend against the mighty Sri Lankan batting outfit, losing the game by seven wickets with 34 deliveries to spare.

With only one game left in the rain affected series, Ross Taylor?s men now can only hope to win the last match to avoid a series white wash.

Ross Taylor admits his side was outplayed by the Sri Lankans in the penultimate ODI encounter.

Expressing disappointment over the series loss, Taylor in his post-match interview said, ?Sri Lanka played smart cricket and put us under pressure from the start. We are so close in these games and we are taking positives out from this game. Our bowlers bowled very well. We hope to at least get a win and avoid 4-0."

The weather has had its toll on New Zealand, where all the games have been affected badly, causing them to be reduced from 50 overs.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have had the better of their opponents and managed to show their strength even with a weakened bowling attack.

Ijaz Butt, PCB?s former boss has called for an investigation into the allegations of match-fixing during 2011?s ICC World Cup semi-final between Pakistan and India, which saw the Men in Green go down by 29 runs.

Butt, who was the chairman of the Pakistan Board at the time did not hold any inquiry into the matter and the ICC also shot down the allegations, however, Butt now believes that investigations should be carried out.

?My suggestion would be that the matter should be investigated. There were a lot of allegations in Indian newspapers and even in Pakistani newspapers but there was no investigation," said Butt in his interview with a Pakistani channel.
