Germany's jobless rate falls to 6.5 percent

BERLIN (AP) ? Germany's Federal Labor Agency says the country's jobless rate fell 0.3 percentage points to 6.5 percent in September compared to the previous month.

But, adjusted for seasonal factors, the rate remained steady at 6.8 percent and the absolute number of jobless rose slightly over August.

The Federal Labor Agency reported Thursday that some 2.788 million people were out of work in Europe's biggest economy in September.

The figure was down from 2.905 million jobless in August.

The agency said that taking into account seasonal factors the number of people out of work rose by 9,000 in September.

Compared to September 2011, the jobless rate was down 0.3 percentage points with 7,327 fewer people without work.
